울진 어촌 당신화와 전승터전의 관계

이 글은 울진 어촌의 당신화가 역사, 자연환경, 생업, 정치질서 등 전승터전과 관계 맺고 있는 양상을 살피려는 것이다. 당신화는 전승집단이 뿌리내리고 있는 역사와 자연환경, 생업과 정치적 터전 위에서 생성되고 전승됐다. 따라서 양자간의 관계 속에서 의미가 생성되고 전승력을 가질 수 있었던 것이다. 이는 당신화가 전승터전과 관련한 다양한 맥락들을 의미화하고 있다고 환언할 수 있다. 따라서 당신화와 전승터전 간의 상관관계를 살펴봄으로써 공동체의 삶과 문화를 해명하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 울진 어촌의 당신화는 지방행정구역과 개촌의 역사, 자연환경인 산, 반농반어의 생업활동, 성씨집단ㆍ자치조직 등 정치질서와 밀접한 관련을 맺으며 전승되고 있다. 역사와 관련한 당신화는 신격의 생성과 관련한 문제를 담고 있으며, 자연환경과 관련한 당신화는 신격이 갖는 영험의 원천을 밝히고 있다. 생업과 관련한 당신화는 풍어나 해상안전 등 제의의 목적을 구체화하고 있으며, 정치질서와 관련한 당신화는 신과 인간, 인간과 인간의 관계를 관념화하고 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있다. 따라서 전승터전과 당신화의 관계는 제의의 정당성을 측면에서 해석할 수 있다. 아울러 전승터전의 변화에 따라 당신화의 소멸ㆍ변이가 이루어지기 때문에 역동성도 보인다.
Abstract
Shrine myths were generated and handed down upon the history, natural environment,occupation and political base that a tradition group is based on. Accordingly, shrine myths wereable to form semantic network amidst the relations with the base for transmission and toassume the transmission power. To put it differently, it is possible to claim that shrine mythsare drawing out meaning of the diverse contexts that are related to the base for transmission. Accordingly, the initiative of examining the correlation between two parties can contribute toexplaining community’s life and culture. Uljin fishery town’s shrine myths were handed down while forming close-knit relations withlocal administrative area system, the town’s history, mountain which is a natural environment,quasi farming and quasi fishing occupational activity, family clams and autonomousorganizations. shrine myths related to history encompass issues related to the generation ofdivinity, and identity. Meanwhile, shrine myths related to the natural environment reveal thesource of spiritual experience of divinity. Shrine myths related to occupation details out thegoals for wishing for big catch or maritime safety. In case of shrine myths related to politicalorder, it was possible to verify that they conceptualize the relationship between gods and humanbeing and among the human beings. Accordingly, relationship between the base for transmissionand shrine myths can be interpreted from the ancestral rites legitimacy aspect. Moreover, it ispossible to examine dynamism as well since extinction and transmutation of shrine myths takeplace according to the change in the base for transmission.
