Abstract

As well as other cultural arts of the country, the importance and need for Archives in folklore is growing day by day. However, the specific discussion of the definition and scope of the archives is not sufficient. And there is a general recognition that archives contain all of the relevant data. In fact, when considering the various aspects of folklore archives, it is assumed that the concrete concept is not an easy task. National Folk Museum is a national institution that is the center of national folklore studies. Earlier it established the ‘The center of folklife Archives’, which aims to promote the active provides the data associated with the activities of the museum. It takes considerable time and effort to collect, organize and provide archives. And it is not easy because of various aspects and massive quantities of archives. It seems that the currently service of ‘The center of folklife Archives’ is complicated because of its various media and paths. Therefore, this study is how ‘The center of folklife Archives’ establishing of National Folk Museum of Korea also find out whether what is currently being operated. And I proposed the improvement directions of ‘The center of folklife Archives’. First, as a review of previous studies I research the reason why folklorist have argued the need for Folklore-Archives, and it will establish whether under National Folk Museum of Korea or present in an independent organization. Next, I examined the process of establishing ‘The center of folklife Archives’ and its status of type and quantity of data and service configuration. Finally, I suggest dividing the improvement of ‘The center of folklife Archives’ to ‘establishing the concept of collections’ and ‘configuration and maintenance management system’. A current archives of National Folk Museum of Korea are being managed by an organization called ‘The center of folklife Archives’. But there are complicated to feel part of the user’s position because its various archives are unsystematic. In this study, I suggest that the work is necessary to develop a concept of Folklore-Archives, and ‘The center of folklife Archives’s configuration and management system. This not only enhances the utilization of the information is provided to aid the understanding of the user but also improve the efficiency of arrangement. However, it should be future complementary, in that it did not develop the specific discussions through real cases of arrangement archives.
