초록
In a crowded modern world it is vital that endorsement of sport and exercise should be compatible with environment and public health outcomes. This study aims to examine whether urban-rural environment have any impact on cardiorespiratory fitness of footballers and sedentary boys of age group 14 to 16 years. The sample consisted of 60 footballers (30 urban and 30 rural) and 160 sedentary boys (80 urban and 80 rural). Parameters included height, weight, BSA, BMI, pre exercise blood pressure (BP), pre exercise heart rate (PHR), physical fitness index (PFI), VO2max. Results were expressed as mean ± SD and independent samples T test was conducted to compare between the groups. Results revealed that PFI and VO2max were significantly higher in rural school going boys of both footballer (p<0.05) and sedentary (p<0.01) groups compared with urban boys, whereas PHR showed significantly lower in rural boys (footballer group p<0.05, sedentary group p<0.01). From the study, it might be concluded that rural boys showed greater cardiorespiratory fitness comparing to their urban counterparts. However, regular training can reduce this urban-rural difference in cardiorespiratory fitness; and lifestyle, habitual activities, and living environment had a great impact on cardiorespiratory fitness that was clearly understood from the control group (sedentary boys).
