고교 진로교육 경험이 대학진학동기를 매개로 대학 진학 이후의 대학적응과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 고등학교 재학 기간 동안의 진로교육 경험과 대학진학동기, 그리고 대학진학 이후의 대학적응 및 학업성취도 간의 구조적 관계를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해고교자료와 수능성적, 그리고 대학생 자료를 포함하는 ‘한국종단교육연구 2005’의 6 ∼7차 자료를 활용하여 경로분석을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 대학 입학 전 고등학교에서 참여한 진로교육 경험이 도움이 되었다고 평가할수록 대학진학동기가 능동적이고 구체적이었는데, 이러한 관계는 부모학업지원과 학생성별, 수능등급에 따른효과를 통제한 후에도 유효하였다. 다음으로, 대학적응에 대한 진로교육의 영향은대학진학동기를 매개로 하는 간접 효과 이외에 직접 효과도 통계적으로 유의하였다. 대학의 학업성취도에 대한 진로교육의 효과는 대학진학동기를 매개로 한 간접효과는 유의미하였으나, 직접효과는 유의미하지 않았다. 즉 대학진학동기는 대학학업성취도에 대한 진로교육의 효과를 완전매개하였다. 이러한 결과는 고교 재학 중의 진로교육 경험을 통해 학생은 대학진학의 필요와목적에 대한 생각을 구체화하여 대학진학동기를 공고히 하고 대학진학 이후에도학업을 성실히 수행하고 사회적으로 더 잘 적응한다는 사실을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine whether more useful career education experience at high school leads to developing more active and specific motivation for college-going, which in turn leads to better adjustment to college both academically and socially. For this purpose, this study conducts path analysis, using data drawn from the 6th and 7th waves of the 2005 Korean Education Longitudinal Study (KELS). The study finds that more useful career education experience at high school has a direct effect on more active and specific motivation for college-going, which is valid even after controlling for the confounding effect of gender, parental support, and college aptitude test result. It also shows that useful career education experience at high school has a statistically significant effect on better adjustment to college both directly and indirectly through the mediating variable of college-going motivation. Yet, this study finds that career education experience at high school has insignificant direct effects on academic performance in college; it only indirectly affects academic performance, the effect of which is mediated by reasons for going to college.
