Abstract
Practicing lawyers have to do their best for legal education, because legal education means self-reproduction to them. Nevertheless, the attitude of Korean practicing lawyers in the ‘law school’ debates from 2003 is very disappointing. Korean practicing lawyers represented by the Korean Bar Association accepted that there were many problems in the Korean legal education and training system composed of the national bar examination and the training at the Judicial Research and Training Institute. However, they have opposed and attacked the introduction of the law school system proposed as a reform method. Even though they have talked on the law school, they have done their best to defend the number of lawyers, without any positive proposition. The attitude of Korean practicing lawyers is disappointing even when it is compared with that of Japanese practicing lawyers in the process of the introduction of Japanese professional law school system as a reform method of the same problems in Japan as those in Korea. Japanese practicing lawyers represented by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, have participated actively and positively in the introduction of the new legal education and training system, and have supported its smooth operation. The law school system, which is a prominent reform method of the Korean legal education and training system, can be introduced successfully only when practicing lawyers and law professors work together. It is an urgent request for them to hold the recognition of the problems in common, to grope together for a right direction, and to make and elaborate a new system together.
