This article was prepared to discuss the issue of urban violence in Brazil, through the survey data, which were collected to assess the prevalence of victimization in Brazil and the specific crime rates as well as to study the demographic profile of the victims. In fact, high crime rates in Brazil are not a new phenomenon. Behind the image of a friendly and peaceful country, Brazil coexists with many violent deaths. Crime is a major concerns in the larger cities of Brazil, Violent crimes occur regularly and the fear of violence has become a common feeling in daily life in large cities. For over 20 years, the rates of homicides and violent crimes are at alarming levels. But in Korea, there are no studies about urban violence in Brazil, despite rapid growth of relationships between two countries. For lack of studies, it is easy to have a “deflection” based on fallacy of illusory correlation on the problem of violence. This study is important for the Korean society because it can create a critical and objective perception to look at violence in Brazil.
