Abstract
Remarkable achievements in modern artificial intelligence researches encourage a lot of researches in self-driving cars. However, there are two big problems in the process for collecting training data used in the autonomous driving. First, construction of huge amounts of training data requires a lot of time and cost. In addition, high risk for representing various driving environments is inevitable problem as well. In order to solve these two problems, this paper proposes a scheme for collecting a training data set from a driving game environment and applying the data set to train a neural network model for self-driving car. The proposed scheme stores monitor screen images and control keys for the corresponding images as training data. After finishing construction of the training data set, we apply the data set to train AlexNet, a well known CNN model. Experimental results show about 92% accuracy in the driving game environment. In the next step, a children’s toy car is used to evaluate the performance of our scheme in real world. A raspberry pi based wheel control and communication module is developed to replace the existing control module. Real world experiments reveals the performances between the virtual and real world environments are quite similar without any compensation for mapping differences between two environments.
