Atrial fibrillation(AF) is the most common cardiovascular arrhythmia, and is associated with an increased risk of stroke. One of the current managements of AF includes cardioversion, which may have a role in the prevention of stroke. On the other hand, cardioversion of AF may be associated with an increased risk of stroke. We describe two patients with AF who developed stroke after cardioversion. Possible pathogenic mechanisms are discussed. We should be aware of this cardioversion-related stroke in patients with AF. Korean Journal of Stroke 2001;3(1): 111~114
