Department of Neurology, Department of Ophthalmology* College of medicine, Chonnam National University. Amaurosis fugax (transient monocular blindness) is a sudden monocular visual loss due to transient hypoperfusion of the eye, usually due to embolism from atherosclerotic carotid arteries. Stenosis of the ophthalmic artery causing amaurosis fugax has been rarely reported. A 65-year-old man was referred to our hospital with several episodes of transient monocular blindness in the right eye. Cerebral angiogram revealed a significant ophthalmic artery stenosis with the intact carotid artery. This case suggests that amaurosis fugax can be caused by ophthalmic artery stenosis.
