칼빈의 하나님의 형상 이해 -신 인식과 인간 인식을 중심으로-

초록

칼빈은 하나님의 영광을 반영하는 것을 하나님의 형상이라고 정의하면서 하나님에 대한 인식과 인간에 대한 인식과 관련하여 자신의 신학에서 다양한 대상들을 하나님의 형상으로 설명한다. 그는 『기독교강요』 1권에서는 자연, 성경, 그리스도, 인간을 하나님의 형상이라는 관점에서 설명한다. 그런데 자연, 성경, 그리스도는 하나님의 영광을 반영하여 하나님을 인식하는 역할을 한다. 그러나 타락한 인간의 현재 상태에서는 자연, 성경, 그리고 그리스도에 나타나 있는 하나님의 형상을 인식할 수 없다. 그렇지만 성령의 조명을 받은 사람들은 자연, 성경, 그리고 그리스도를 통하여 나타나 있는 하나님의 형상을 인식할 수 있다. 자연, 성경, 그리고 그리스도에 대하여 칼빈이 하나님의 형상이란 용어를 사용할 때에는 보이지 않는 하나님을 우리가 인식할 수 있도록 만들어주는 계시의 역할을 의미한다. 칼빈은 인간이 하나님의 형상으로 창조된 것에 대하여 관계론적인 측면을 구원론적인 관점에서 강조하고 실재론적인 측면을 지상생활을 위한 보조적인 관점으로 사용한다. 칼빈은 하나님의 형상은 영혼을 좌소로 하여 영혼에 새겨진 것으로 이해하는데, 창조할 때에 주어졌다가 타락했을 때 상실하였으며, 중생할 때에 회복되기 시작하여 평생동안 점진적으로 이루어지는 것으로 이해한다. 실재론적인 측면에서 하나님의 형상은 타락 후에도 존재하여 하나님의 형상으로 인한 존엄성 때문에 살인이 금지되고, 모든 인종과 종교와 계급에 관계없이 그들에게 있는 하나님의 형상을 보고 사랑해야한다. 그리고 인간은 타락 후에도 이성과 의지가 남아있고 양심에 자연법에 새겨져 있어 사회생활이 가능하다. 칼빈은 하나님의 형상을 구원과 지상생활과 관련하여 관계론과 실재론의 종합적인 측면에서 분석하고 있다. 칼빈은 여성은 창조와 구원의 측면에서 남성과 동등하게 하나님의 형상이나, 세상 질서와 관련해서는 하나님의 형상이 아니라고 하여 가정과 교회, 그리고 사회생활에서 남성에 대한 여성의 종속성을 주장한다. 이러한 종속의 모습으로 교회에서 나타났던 베일을 쓰는 것과 침묵하는 것은 아디아포라로 변화의 가능성을 인정하나, 교회에서 가르치는 것을 금지하는 것은 창조 질서로 변화가 불가능하다고 보았다. 칼빈은 자연에 대한 지배권은 하나님의 형상의 일부분이라고 보았으므로, 하나님의 형상의 시간적인 측면과 함께 자연보호의 청지기 사상을 내포하고 있어 오늘날의 환경문제에 대한 해결책을 암시하고 있다.

Abstract

Calvin explains the various objects as image of God in his theology, defining the image of God as the reflection of the God's glory. He uses the image of God with reference to the knowledge of God and ourselves. He describes nature, scriptures, and Christ from the viewpoint of image of God in the first book of Institutes. They lead us the recognition of God. But the fallen mankind don't recognize the image of God mirrored in them. Those who are illuminated by the Holy Spirit can recognize the image of God reflected in them. When he uses the image of God concerning nature, Scriptures, and Christ, it means the role of revelation in which the invisible God can be recognized by us. Calvin focuses on the dynamic relationship of the image of God from the soteriological point about the human creation as the image of God. He sees soul as the seat of image of God and he understands that it is engraved on the soul. It is given at the creation of the soul, it is lost when it corrupts and it is restored when it is regenerated and it's restoration progresses gradually during one's life. He also use the image of God as the substantial endowment for the christian ethic. The image of God has residue when it depraved. And mankind has the human dignity and the killing is forbidden because of his image of God. We must also love every neighbor when we sees his image of God. According to Calvin, the woman is the same image of God as man from the creation and redemption. But she is not the image of God with reference to the political order of present life. He saw the veiling of woman and the silence in the church as adiaphora from the first edition of Institutes. But the forbidding of teaching in the church is the creation ordinance which is inviolable. Douglass interprets Calvin's position as the change possibility of the woman's subordination in the church in the future while Thompson understands that the adiaphora is changeable and the creation ordinance can't change. Calvin intimates the solution of the biological crisis because he sees the dominion of the nature as the part of image of God and explains the stewardship about the nature.
