Abstract

This study described the results of a model experiment simulating TPH(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) spill in the ground to evaluate the TPH barrier effect of the reactive liner. The model experiment considered the ground and TPH spill location, and the barrier effect of the reactive liner was evaluated by the change in the ground permeability coefficient over time due to groundwater flow. The experiment results showed that the permeability coefficient of the ground decreased over time regardless of whether fine-grained soil was included, when the TPH spill conditions were the same. In addition, the permeability coefficient of the ground containing fine-grained soil was confirmed to be lower. However, the impermeability characteristic of the liner (10-6cm/s) due to the TPH reaction were clearly expressed only in sandy soils where the spill location was close to the liner, when the groundwater flow time after the TPH spill was 24 hours. As a result of evaluating the effect of TPH spill distance on the barrier effect of the liner, although there were differences depending on ground conditions, the blocking effect of the liner could be expected within 24 hours only when the leak occurred within 0.50D from the liner. There were differences depending on the ground conditions, but the barrier effect of the liner could be expected within 24 hours only under TPH spill condition within 0.50D from the liner.
