Abstract

How much influence do stereotype, negative feeling, sex attitude, normative attitude, family type attitude, attitude toward other groups and etc. have on social distance toward unmarried mothers? For this research, 332 subjects responded to the questionnaire on-line by Micromillmbrain www.ezsurvey.co.kr. The result is as follows: (1) social distance toward unmarried mothers by age and favorite political party showed statistically significant difference but there was no significant difference by education, religion and others. (2) All variables such as stereotypes, negative feeling, social normative attitude, sex attitude, attitude toward family types, other than family normative attitude are correlated to social distance toward unmarried mothers keeping their babies. (3) Regression Analysis result among variables showed that the statistically most influential factor was attitude toward family types, the second one was negative feeling, the third factor was age. Legal and social policy including establishing prohibition act on family discrimination is required for the removal of social distance toward unmarried mother family. And to decrease social distance toward unmarried mother, various education approaches in the family or school and through media from early stage should be mobilized to get rid of negative feelings against unmarried mothers.
