본 연구는 간호사의 해외봉사활동 경험의 의미와 본질에 대해 이해하고 분석하였다. 자료 수집은 2015년 9월부터 2015년 12월 사이에 개방형 질문을 활용한 개인 심층면담을 통해 실시되었다. 본 연구의 참여자는 2년 이상의 해외봉사활동 경험이 있는 총 7명의 간호사이었으며, 각 면담 시간은 약 1시간에서 1시간 30분이 소요되었다. 면담 결과는 Colaizzi의 현상학적 분석방법에 따라 분석하였다. 그 결과, ‘더불어 살아가는 삶, ‘어디서나 통하는 간호, ‘열정과 좌절’의 3가지 주제모음과 ‘현지어 익히기, ‘현지 환경 적응하기, ‘현지인과 어울리기, ‘소통의 물꼬를 터주는 간호, ‘변화를 일으키는 간호, ‘협력을 일궈내는 간호, ‘긍정적 삶을 이끌어내는 원동력의 시간, ‘경력단절의 시간’의 8개의 하위 주제로 범주화 되었다. 본 연구결과 해외봉사활동을 통해 간호사의 개인적 성장 및 국제보건 현장에서 간호사의 독립적인 활동이 가능함을 나타났다. 따라서, 간호사는 국제보건 현장에서 지속적으로 활동하여 독자적인 간호 영역를 확장해야겠으며, 이러한 간호사의 경력 및 역량이 지속될 수 있는 관련 프로그램 개발이 필요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand and explain the meaning and essence of nurses’ overseas volunteering experiences. The data was collected from September 2015 to December 2015 through individual in-depth interviews using open-ended questions. A total of 7 nurses with 2 years of volunteering abroad participated in this study. Each interview lasted about one hour to one hour and thirty minutes. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. After a thorough analysis, the topics were classified into three themes: 'A life together', 'Nursing that works everywhere', and 'Passion and discouragement', and eight sub-themes: 'Learning the local language', 'Adapting to the local environment', 'Getting along with local residents', 'Nursing that facilitates communication', 'Nursing that brings upon change', 'Nursing that promotes cooperation', 'Driving force that promotes optimistic life attitudes', and 'Career discontinuation'. These themes suggest that nurses grow personally through volunteering abroad and can work independently in the international health field. Therefore, nurses will have to continue to participate in the international healthcare and expand the independent activities of a nurse. It is necessary to develop a program that has experience and competency of nurses in volunteering can lead steadily.
