Abstract

.The existing research has established a relationship between textile based craft activities, creative engagement and mental stimulation. Participating in these textile crafts enhances positive wellbeing through creative self-expression, stress relief, relaxation and building social relations. The meaning and value of textile crafts such as knitting, quilting and sewing are recognized in the context of positive happiness and creativity. However, research on the psychological well - being and creative aspects of weaving activity is negligible. This study will investigate the possibility that ikat weaving activities can enhance psychological stability and creativity. For this, an extensive review of literature is done. First, we will examine the existing relationship between psychological stability and creativity through textile craft activities. Next, the general principles involved in ikat making process is explained and we will discuss creative ikat weaving activities as a way to enhance positive experiences and psychological stability. It is expected that creative ikat weaving activities will provide opportunities to improve psychological stability by promoting positive emotions and optimal functions. Finally, the article presents a positive approach to include ikat weaving as a part of textile craft interventions dedicated to sustaining and improving psychological wellbeing and creativity of communities through education research and service sectors.
