Abstract

This paper discusses semantic search in textual documents using ontological information and inferential rules. Most information retrieval or text mining use keyword matching to answer queries about information contained in documents. However, keyword matching methods ignore relations expressed in the query and thus are not effective to retrieve textual records. Another information retrieval system is one using relation matching, in which both the concepts and the relations between the concepts are considered. However, although these two methods are effective in their own ways, it is more desirable to have a system which integrates both the methods. This paper proposes an integrated framework for searching textual information using ontological hierarchies and inference rules within the Conceptual Structure framework. (Geumgang University)
