Abstract
In the 1910's, under the influence of Japanese invasion, the economic structure of Chosun underwent some great changes. In agriculture, the Japanese imperialism plundered a great deal of wealth by various means such as land survey, grain yield increase plans and so on; in industry, it sped up its steps of infiltration of the monopolist capital. exploration book Recently, we discovered three exploration books on Chosun written by Chinese people who visited Chosun then, which may help us further understand the colony Chosun in the eyes of the Chinese at that time. The three books include the records of visit of Chosun written by the Chinese officers Wang Yangbin and Wan Baoyuan who participated in the Products Gongjinhui (Promotion Association) of Chosun in 1915, called Record of Survey of Chosun, and Investigation Report on Chosun Industry written by Chen Linzhi, head of the Agriculture and Forestry Institute of Zhili Province, after his on-the-spot investigation of the situation of Chosun industry in 1917. Both reports described the changes and economic development condition of Chosun. In addition, the secret document with confidential mark, What We Saw and Heard in Chosun, gave an account of the low-down of the sufferings of the Chosun people who were plundered by Japanese imperialism. Yet, what is interesting is, one book was in a tone of criticism of the colonial plundering, but the other books took a position of discussion on the modernization of the colony at that time when describing the economic development of Chosun in the 1910's. In other words, the writers thought that the Japanese colonial policy promoted the fast growth of Chosun economy in fact. Based on the above-mentioned three books, now we shall chiefly expound the topic on the colony Chosun in the eyes of the Chinese in the mid 1910's.
