초록

The co-administration of quinolones with multi-cation drugs impairs the absorptionof quinolones, and may decrease the efficacy and increase the antibiotic resistance. For this reasons, the KFDA recommends the administration of quinolone 2 to 4 hours before or 2 hours afterthe intake of multi-cation drugs. Therefore, this study was designed to analyze the administrationpatterns of combination therapies with quinolones and multi-cation drugs and to evaluatethe effective use of quinolones. From January to July 2013, 249 inpatients older than 12 years were included. The study wasconducted in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. The patients were given quinolonesand multi-cation drugs on the same day. The co-administration and inappropriate co-administration of the 2 classes of drugs were retrospectively evaluated. There were 213(16.6%), 172(36%), 695(39.9%) and 216(34.5%) co-administration prescriptions ofmoxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin 250 mg, ciprofloxacin 500 mg and levofloxacin with multi-cationdrugs, respectively. There were 177(13.8%), 143(29.9%), 558(32%) and 139(22.2%) inappropriate coadministrationprescriptions, respectively. Dosing intervals for were shorter than 10 minutes for46% of co-administration prescriptions. Magnesium products were the most common used multicationdrugs. There were about 31.4% co-administration prescriptions suggesting a decrease in the efficacy ofquinolones. Therefore, it is required to educate healthcare professionals about drug interactionsand to revise the default standard dosing time for an effective quinolone pharmacotherapy.
