초록

While a lot of studies with European languages suggested major contributions of the phonological information in visual word recognition, there are studies suggesting little effect of the phonological information in Korean visual word processing. Therefore, the current study aims to examine the role of phonological information in Korean visual word recognition by using an event related brain potential technique known to be very sensitive for measuring on-line language processes. In this study, the participants performed a primed go /no-go lexical decision task. The results showed that pseudo-homophone prime and phonologically identical first syllable prime as well as orthographically identical first syllable prime elicited smaller N250 compared with control condition. The results of the current study suggested that the phonological information as well as orthographic information is effectively used for the Korean visual word recognition processes.
