Abstract
This thesis is a study on the relationship between the theory of Yin and Yang('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') and the theory of three dimensions-Chun(天)·Ji(地)·In(人)('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions') which are detected in the thought traditions of Korea and China commonly. Regardless of Taoism and Confucianism in China, we can find the theory of Yin and Yang('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') easily. On the other hand we can find the theory of three dimensions also -Yin Energy(陰氣), Yang Energy(陽氣) and Neutral Energy(中和氣) dimensions in Taoism. Focusing on the relationship between the theory of Yin and Yang('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') and the theory of three dimensions in Taoism, we can find that the theory of three dimensions used to explain just like the theory of Yin and Yang. That is, the theory of three dimensions in Taoism does not insure it’s characteristic and is standing at the state of the theory of Yin and Yang. In Chinese thought tradition, the theory of Yin and Yang has been superior than the theory of three dimensions. But in Korean Sun-do(韓國仙道) tradition, the theory of three dimensions('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions') has been maintained the absolute state. The ontology of Korean Sun-do can be summarized as 'the theory of One-Three-Nine'('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions'). And it contains 'the theory of One-Two-Four-Eight',('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') 'The theory of One-Three-Nine'('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions') shows the substance of being -the three dimensions and the phenomena of being- the nine dimensions(or five dimensions). On the contrary, 'the theory of One-Two-Four-Eight'('the theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') only shows on the formation of Yin and Yang as the phenomena of being. In brief, 'The theory of One-Three-Nine'('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions') explains both the substance and the phenomena generally. In Korean Sun-do, 'the theory of One-Two-Four-Eight',('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') is melted into the theory of One-Three-Nine'('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions'). Thus the theory of One-Three-Nine'('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions') is superior than 'the theory of One-Two-Four-Eight'('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang'). The essence of Chinese Taoism is the theory of Yin and Yang('The theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang') and the essence of Korean Sun-do is the theory of tree dimensions('the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions'). What is the key of this difference? In Korean Sun-do, the substance has been explained with the theory of three-dimensions and the phenomena has been explained with the theory of Yin and Yang. But in China, both the substance and the phenomena are explained with the theory of Yin and Yang. the reason of this difference is that Chinese have a tendency to focus on the phenomena of being generally. Not only the theory of the five natural elements of the three-dimensions in Korean Sun-do shows both the substance and the phenomena on the whole, but also it contains the theory of Yin and Yang and reveals the Chunbu(天符) Harmony point in the nine dimensions. So we can see the original form of the theory of the five natural elements of Yin and Yang in it.
