Abstract
This paper applies the concepts of agency and authorship to examine various problems raised by writing machines. With the artificial intelligence revolution, the time has arrived to address such fundamental questions regarding the subject and meaning of text production, such as “Who is the subject of writing and what is the act of writing?”. The ability of writing machines based on artificial intelligence is not limited to functioning as word processors or producing output according to input programs. Artificial intelligence is also deeply involved in the world of creative writing, which is considered a uniquely human area, and fiction by so-called robot authors is presently being published. This new writing ecosystem can be expanded and enriched through non-anthropocentric thinking, which can shed light on the emergence of a new writing era through the recognition of various actors involved in writing and the dissolution of the romantic concept of creativity. The actor-network theory, which emphasizes our need to overcome anthropocentrism and technology-centralism, lays the foundation for breaking away from the existing notion that only humans can be the subject of writing. The world of writing will expand by focusing on the collective dimension of creativity and production instead of the existing anthropocentric writing concept that takes its starting point from self-thinking, individual, and intentional actions.
