초록
The pyrochemical process of nuclear spent fuel generates a considerable amount of LiCl-KCl eutectic waste salt containing radioactive rare earth chlorides. To minimize this radioactive waste salt, it is necessary to develop an effective separation technology of rare earths from the salt. For this reason, separation characteristics of LaCl3 in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt in a reactive distillation process using a chemical agent (K2CO3, Li2CO3, Li2O) were observed. LaCl3 was separated into an oxychloride form (LaOCl) and an oxide from (La2O3) in the reactive distillation tests of LiCl-KCl-LaCl3 system. All the separations of LaCl3 in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt reached 0.999 regardless of injection conditions of the agents. This means that La in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt can be effectively separated through the reactive distillation process using alkali carbonates (K2CO3, Li2CO3) cheaper than Li2O. Thus, it is thought that the reactive distillation process using the carbonates can be utilized to separate rare earths in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt.
