This study applies Social Network Analysis (SNA) to prescription data from classical Oriental medical texts to explore the structural roles of medicinal herbs. Two networks were constructed: Prescription–Herb and Disease–Herb. Key herbs were identified using degree and betweenness centrality. In the Prescription–Herb network, Moschus a had the highest degree centrality, indicating frequent use, while Olibanum a and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma a showed strong mediating roles. In the Disease–Herb network, Dioscoreae Rhizoma a appeared central across diseases, but was not a key herb in individual networks for headache, fever, and abdominal pain—suggesting variation in herb usage by condition. These findings highlight the need for disease-specific herb management and suggest that SNA is a useful tool for interpreting complex relationships in traditional medicine and supporting data-driven herbal management strategies.
