Abstract
The aim of this study is an exploration of the present state of the study of dance in the West through many interviews of each part of dance scholars. Various kinds of dance can be the subject of dance study with various methodologies. Dance is researched by human sciences, social science and natural science. The subject of dance study does not need to be limited and any kinds of subject could be the subject of dance research. Therefore, the subject of dance study is not only concert dance but also folk dance and strips dance. Dance study as an independent study is regarded as an advanced study in Western. In South Korea, however, dance study is yet not regarded as an advanced study. And this researcher provides a suggestion in which dance study needs both independent sphere and interdisciplinary research. This article could be a good reference for developing dance study in South Korea.
