La narrativa latinoamericana en los tiempos post… y después

Abstract

This article proposes a reading and interpretation of recent Latinamerican literature, chiefly narrative. How do the new social economic and political conditions relate and connected to the cultural and artistic representations? The authot suggests three main axis from which to begin the analysis: “Post-Velocity”, where he studies the idea of the “Post”, i.e., what does it mean to leave in a “post-everything” world. “Velocity” becomes a key category to explain and understand the new cultural situation. Some of the new narratives are great examples of this new ideology (Close readings of Atacames Tonic, by Ecuadorian writer Esteban Michelena and Ruido de Fondo by Guatemalan Javier Payeras). The second axis, “velocity and technology” specifically deals with texts that make of technological innovations and there impact to society a central topic. The third axis attempts to provide a broader perspective and relate politics, market, and realism. The emergence of a new kind of realism would constitute one of the main characteristic of the new narratives. Reference to and interpretations of several novels by authors of all Latin American provide a wide scope and general perspective of the recent trends of current narrative.
