초록
This work demonstrates the searching and encountering of anArgentine criollo identity, defined against European immigrant identitiesin two Argentine literary works. First, through examination of EugenioCambaceres’ naturalist novel Sin rumbo (1885) from the end of the 19thcentury, indications are found for the beginning of the search for theArgentine criollo identity, defined in opposition to the culture ofimmigrants, especially Italians, a social aspect resounding withDomingo Faustino Sarmiento’s project. Second, through the study ofJorge Luis Borges’ fantastic short story “El Aleph” (1949) set at thebeginning of the 20th century, an encounter with Argentine criolloidentity is also demonstrated in opposition to Italian immigrants, whichresults from a relative and deconstructionist idea with respect to the valueof European culture.
