Abstract
The ratio of landfill, incineration, and recycling was 72.3%, 4.0%, and 23.7% respectively in 1995 in terms of the disposal of municipal solid waste in Korea. However, the landfill ratio has been decreased constantly, and that of incineration and recycling has been increasing. As the incineration ratio goes up, the residue after incineration is likely to rise. As a result, in 2001 the amount of incineration ash reached to 400 thousand tons in which bottom ash and fly ash were estimated to amount to 350 thousand tons and 50 thousand tons, respectively. The bottom ash which is composed of iron, glass, ceramic, and others, has high recycling possibility through proper treatment such as separation and stabilization, but landfill is usually used in Korea. But, in the European countries such as German, Denmark and Netherlands, 60-90% of bottom ash is recycled as light aggregate for road construction, or asphalt and concrete. The purpose of this report is to suggest the used and studied technology about treatment for smooth recycling of bottom ash generated from municipal solid waste incineration process.
