초록

Field test has been conducted to investigate the variation of ferrous ion contents in mine drainages with different pH conditions by oxidation reaction in water tanks. The major influencing factor of oxidation were the surface area in contact with air and the depth of a tank. The mine drainage samples from the Samma-Taejung mine (pH 2.86) and Hwangji-Yuchang mine (pH 6.42) were selected. The mine drainage samples were added into 5 water tanks with both depths and diameters ranging 30~90 cm. The properties of the mine drainage including ferrous ion concentration, dissolved oxygen (DO), electric conductivity (EC), turbidity, pH and total dissolved solids (TDS) were measured with time variance. In the case of the Samma-Taejung mine drainage, the average reducing rate of ferrous ion was 31.5% after 52 hours. On the other hand, the reducing rate of ferrous ion in the Hwangji-Yuchang mine drainage was 96.1% after 48 hours. As progressing the oxidation reaction, increasing surface area in contact with air resulted in increasing the reducing rate of ferrous ion. In case of the Hwangji-Yuchang mine drainage, the shallower the depth of the tank was, the higher was the reducing rate of ferrous ion. Oxidation rate of ferrous ion in mine drainage depends on pH values. Therefore, pH should be considered for designing of a oxidation pond because the removal efficiency of ferrous ion is higher in weakly alkalic mine drainage was higher than in strongly acidic mine drainage.
