Abstract
The leaching behaviors of Pb, Cu, and Zn using citric acid solution with hydrogen peroxide were investigated for the removal of metals from contaminated soils such as small arms training site, clay-pigeon shooting area, and harbor sediments. The leaching results were compared with chemical forms of Pb, Cu, and Zn. The chemical forms were investigated by Tessier’s sequential extraction method, which consists of five fractions such as ‘exchangeable’, ‘bound to carbonate’, ‘bound to oxide’, ‘bound to organic matter (or sulfide)’, and ‘residue’. The leaching results show that 1 mol·l-1 citrate leach solution could extract the weathered form containing ‘exchangeable’, ‘bound to carbonate’, and ‘bound to oxidize’, and that the addition of hydrogen peroxide accelerates the leaching of metals belonged to the fractions of ‘bound to organic matter (or sulfide)’ and ‘residue’. Therefore, the leaching efficiencies of Pb, Cu, and Zn increased with increasing hydrogen peroxide concentration during citric acid leaching.
