초록

In this work, the effect of adding different oxides to sodium borate (NB) glass on the radiation shielding performance is investigated. Borate glass samples containing varying proportions of certain oxides (MgO, Al2O3, MoO3, BaO, ZnO and PbO) were prepared, and their ability to attenuate radiation intensity was measured through experimental and theoretical techniques. The comparison between the experimental linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) and the Phy-X data for the prepared glasses are very closed. At the lowest energy considered (0.059 MeV), there’s a clear distinction in the Mass attenuation coefficients (MACs) shown by the samples. For example, sample NB-PbO and NB-BaO have 2.258 and 2.941 cm2/g while the lowest MAC was NB-MgO (0.195 cm2/g) which making the samples NB-PbO and NB-BaO are the best attenuating samples, while the sample NBMgO shows the lowest MAC which making it the poorest shielding material at this energy value. As the energy increased from 0.059 MeV to 0.662 MeV, the Transmission factor (TF) also increased significantly especially in the denser samples; the TF value of sample NB-BaO increased from 0.01 cm to 79.27 %, sample NB-PbO increased from 0.03 cm to 72.04 % while sample NB-MgO increased from 61.11 to 82.67 %, corresponding to the lowest increment in TF value.
