초록
Green supply chain management can be defined as a firm’s efforts to minimize negative effects to the environment by internally managing and externally collaborating with its suppliers and customers. Prior studies have mainly focused on the effects of external pressures or social responsibility on green supply chain management practices, but still reported mixed results. In addition, past literature does not provide consistent results on the effectiveness of green supply chain management and most studies have been based on a single country data, which makes it hard to generalize research findings. This research aims to investigate 1) the relationship between a firm’s internal and external factors and the firm’s green supply chain management practices (GSCMP), and 2) the effects of GSCMP on the firm performances. Basing on the political-economic framework, this research posits that internal factor(i.e., competitive advantage) and external factors(i.e., customer pressure, and government regulation) positively affect GSCMP. In addition, this study suggests that a firm’s GSCMP positively affect both its environmental and operational performance. Data were collected from a total of 189 plants in 12 countries, and hierarchical linear modeling is employed due to a two-level data structure. Results show that all three antecedents positively influence the firm’s GSCMP respectively, which in turn improves its environmental and operational performance. Academic and managerial implications are discussed and future research directions are also presented.
