Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between the management strategies of logistics companies and the factors influencing their selection, based on 26 years of business reports from 22 domestic logistics companies. To achieve this, variables affecting strategy selection were identified through a review of major perspectives on management strategies such as subject-based, environmental, resource-based approaches and strategy typologies. The results indicate that multiple factors of research model significantly affect the management strategy selection of logistics companies. However, due to characteristics inherent in the domestic logistics market such as decision-making authority concentrated in top management, a market structure dominated by subsidiaries of large corporations, and the prevalence of small-scale logistics firms, majority of companies were found to adopt conservative management strategies. This study contributes to academia and industry by addressing the underexplored issue of management strategies in logistics companies. It offers a comprehensive analysis by considering subject, environment, and resource factors and develops an evaluation model for the management strategy selection of logistics companies based on objective corporate reporting data.
