초록
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an empowerment-based diabetes prevention education program for individuals with prediabetes, with the goal of providing a foundation for future program development. Method: A quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used, involving 41 participants in the experimental group and 79 in the control group from a rural community. The experimental group received the empowerment-based diabetes prevention education program once a week for eight weeks, while the control group received a lecture-based education program once a week for two weeks. Pre- and post-tests were conducted simultaneously for both groups, and the program's effectiveness was assessed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Results: The experimental group showed a significant increase in diabetes knowledge (from 3.73 to 8.66 points) compared to the control group (from 3.85 to 7.38 points) (p < 0.001). Self-efficacy improved significantly in the experimental group (from 13.37 to 25.46 points), compared to a modest increase in the control group (from 13.51 to 14.16 points) (p < 0.001). HbA1c levels decreased in the experimental group (from 5.94% to 5.66%), a statistically significant improvement compared to the control group, which showed no change (from 5.93% to 5.94%) (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The empowerment-based diabetes prevention education program effectively improved diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy, and HbA1c levels in adults with prediabetes, providing important foundational data to support the expansion of educational programs targeting this population.
