= Abstract = Objectives: This study was performed to identify the state of sarcopenia and its associated factors in the elderly living in some rural areas. Methods: The subjects of this study were 181 elderly living in rural areas of G City. The sarcopenia possible was defined using by the SARC-Calf (strength, assistance in walking, rise from a chair, climb stairs, and falls with calf circumference) and the data were collected by face to face interview with structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis to identify associated factors. Results: The SARC-Calf screening test results showed that 34.8% of the elderly had sarcopenia possible. The odds ratios for sarcopenia possible were 3.24 (95% CI: 1.08-9.74) in women compared to men, 1.14 (95% CI:1.04-1.24) with increasing age, and 1.21 (95% CI: 1.01-1.44) with higher depression score, which were statistically significant. Conclusion: We confirmed that sarcopenia is a significant health problem that accounts for a large proportion of elderly people in some rural areas. It is necessary to conduct regular screening to identify and manage sarcopenia in the community, considering the timing of the decline in muscle mass and strength.
