Abstract
Singapore has been trying hard to elevate it’s economic value by fusing culture and arts into development strategy. Singapore, that has swiftness and driving forces as a city state, has been propelling ‘culturenomics’ enthusiastically. Economic Review Committee of Singapore recommended that it should shift strategic focus to development with soft power such as creativity, culture and arts from ‘manufacturing-driven development’. Major achievements Singapore has done are as follows; first, Singapore begins to be widely accepted as an attractive city resulting from successful implementation of the “Renaissance City Project”, second, it could enhance economic competitiveness by cultivating creative industries, third, it could raise proud and sense of community of Singaporean, in turn, achieve social integration. This paper includes (1) the background of Singapore’s Renaissance Project, (2) the role and key success factors of the project, (3) enhancing competitiveness of enterprises with design capabilities, (4) the economic impact of creative industries, (5) comparative analysis with other countries and (6) lessons and implication to Korea.
