사이버교육의 운영실태 및 효과 분석-M대학교 사례를 중심으로-

초록

본 연구는 2003년도 1학기 M대학교에 개설된 19개 교내 가상강좌를 대상으로 한 사례연구를 통해 사이버교육의 운영실태 및 효과를 분석하고자 하였다. 특히 본 연구는 학습자가 인식하는 가상강좌의 문제점 및 효과분석에 초점을 맞추어 학습자 대상의 온라인 설문조사가 주된 연구방법으로 사용되었고, 교수자대상의 온라인 설문조사, 조교와 교수자대상의 면담이 보조적으로 사용되었다. 연구결과 가상강좌는 고학년 수강편중, 다인수중심 강좌 운영, 동영상과 텍스트기반의 강의중심, 적은 학습량의 특징을 나타냈다. 가상강좌의 효과와 관련하여 학생들은 오프라인수업과 비교하여 학업성취도가 비슷하거나 약간 우월한 것으로 긍정적인 평가를 나타냈다. 특히 멀티미디어 활용이 높고 교과내용의 난이도가 비교적 낮은 대형 교양강좌에서 높은 만족도를 나타낸 반면 실습중심의 강좌와 난이도가 높은 전공강좌에서 낮은 만족도를 나타내 강좌의 교육내용, 수업설계가 효과에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 함의하였다. 연구결과는 향후 대형 가상강좌 증가를 예측하고 있으며, 효과분석과 관련하여 강좌, 학습자 특성 등의 다각적인 변인에 대한 고려를 제안한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics and analyze effectiveness of M University's online courses. Using online survey method, it was found that students were satisfied with the online courses. Especially, students enrolled in the online course showed high satisfaction in the liberal studies and multimedia-based courses compared with the major and practice-based ones. However, a little amount of study per week might lead to some problems in the quality of online courses. Online courses were characterized by high percentage of senior's enrollment, large class, and VOD and text-based lecture. The findings support those of researchers arguing that the online course does not diminish the level of student satisfaction and effectiveness compared with traditional face-to-face course. The result prospects the increasing number of large online course in higher education. In addition, experimental methods considering diverse variables, for example learner and course characteristics, and online environments were recommended for further studies to analyze effectiveness of online course.
