Abstract

This study aims to explore ways to enhance learners' intention to persist in learning, addressing the issue of low completion rates in MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) despite their growth and popularity following the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies post-COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, the study measures the relationships between content quality (system quality, information quality, and service quality) as a scale of the IS (Information Systems) model, learning engagement, and digital literacy to derive academic implications for determining the success of learning from the perspectives of learning environment and technology. A survey was conducted on adult learners who took courses offered in K-MOOC, utilizing 266 responses. Key findings include that information quality and system quality positively impacted the intention to persist in learning, while service quality did not, and that learning engagement mediated the relationship between content quality and the intention to persist in learning. Additionally, digital literacy significantly moderated the relationship between content quality and the intention to persist in learning, highlighting the importance of technical aspects and digital literacy in online learning environments. These findings are expected to serve as foundational data for the design and operation of effective learning environments.
