사회과에서 문화의 재개념화와 비판적 문화 교육의 모색

본 연구의 목적은 사회과 교육이 지향해야 하는 현실 사회에 대한 비판적 분석 및 실천적 참여를 강조하는 민주시민성의 유형과 이에 부합하는 문화의 재개념화와 비판적 문화 교육을 모색하고자 하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는한국 사회의 변동 양상 및 특성과 관련된 사회적 갈등 및 쟁점 해결에 적극적으로 대처할 수 있는 ‘비판적 시민성’을제안하고, 문화를 권력관계가 반영되는 의미 생성의 과정이 이루어지는 현실적인 공간으로 규정하는 비판적ㆍ역동적ㆍ실천적 문화 모형을 제안하였다. 즉, 학생들의 삶이나 경험과 유리되어 객관주의에 입각한 지식 전달을 강조하거나현존 문화유산에 대한 무비판적인 수용을 강조하는 시민성 교육 모형은 동질적ㆍ정태적인 집단 생활방식으로서문화를 바라보는 현행 개념 모형인 총체론적․생태학적 문화 모형과 밀접하게 연계된다. 반면, 현존 사회 제도나 관행의문제점을 비판하고 개선을 위한 참여를 강조하는 대안적 시민 교육 모형인 비판적 시민성 모형은 학생들의 삶에직ㆍ간접적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있는 권력관계가 반영된 상징 행위로서의 문화를 규정하는 비판적․역동적․실천적문화 모형과 밀접하게 연계된다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 연구의 시사점 및 후속 연구 관련 제안을 소개하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구에서는비판적 시민성 함양을 목표로 하는 사회 교과의 특성에 부합하는 문화 및 문화 교육에 대한 재개념화를 시도함으로써민주 시민 교육의 관점에서 문화 현상을 바라보는 시야를 확대하는데 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 둘째, 본 연구에서 시도한 문화 및 문화 교육의 재개념화에 기반하여 후속 연구에서는 사회과에서 문화 교육 내용 영역전반에 대한 체계적인 분석을 시도할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to attempt to reconceptualize culture and explore critical culture education in line with the type of democratic citizenship that emphasizes the critical analysis and practical participatory behavior of the real society that social studies education should pursue. This study proposes 'critical citizenship' that can actively cope with social conflicts and issues related to fostering and characterizing changes in Korean society, and proposed a conceptual model of a critical, dynamic, and practical culture that defines culture as a realistic space in which power relations are reflected and meanings are formed. In other words, the model of citizenship education, which emphasizes the transfer of knowledge based on objectivism separated from students' lives or experiences, or the uncritical acceptance of existing cultural heritage, is closely linked to the current conceptualization of culture as homogeneous and static ways of life. On the other hand, the critical citizenship model, an alternative civic education model that criticizes the problems of existing social institutions or practices and emphasizes voluntary participation in improving them, is closely linked to a critical, dynamic, and practical concept of culture defined as a symbolic act that reflects the power relationship that can directly or indirectly affect students' lives. Based on these findings, the implications of the study and suggestions for subsequent research are as follows. First, this study attempts to reconceptualize culture and cultural education in line with the characteristics of social curriculum aimed at fostering critical citizenship, thereby contributing to expanding the view of cultural phenomena from the perspective of democratic civic education. Second, based on the reconceptualization of culture and cultural education attempted in this study, it is necessary to systematically analyze the entire contents of cultural education in the social studies in subsequent studies.
