Abstract
Lee, J.K., Shin Y.O., Kim, J.K., Moon, H.W., Park, I.S., Lee, J.S. The effect of prolonged acute exercise on gene expression related with the fatty acid oxidation in rat skeletal muscle and adipose tissues. Exercise Science, 15(4): 337-346, 2006. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acute prolonged exercise (3h;30min×6) on genes closely associated with fatty acid oxidation(FAT/CD36, β-HAD, PDK4, PGC-1) in various rat tissues(Vastus lateralis [Vas.]; visceral adipose tissue[VAT]; brown adipose tissue[BAT]). Real time RT-PCR was used for gene expression analysis. Acute exercise did not exert significant effect on FAT/CD36 mRNA expression, but it was significantly higher in VAT compared to other tissues(p<.05). β-HAD gene expression was significantly increased in Vas, and it was statistically higher in VAT than Vas. after exercise(p<.05). Although BAT was shown a significantly higher in PDK4 mRNA expression than other tissues(p<.05), there was no statistical interaction between exercise and tissues. The expression of PGC-1 mRNA was also shown no interaction between exercise and tissues even though it was significantly increased following exercise(p<.05). In conclusion, no interaction can be found between acute exercise stress and various tissues in rodent tissues. Based on these results, it was also suggested that the expression of fatty acid regulatory genes may be modulated by independent but complex mechanisms.
