Abstract

This study aims to provide fundamental data to minimize secondary diseases such as adult disease and chronic disease of hemiplegic patients by presenting exercise methods after hemiplege patients' acute phase physiotherapy. The subjects were 11 hemiplegic patients, 49 years old on average with 79.63 month-disease period. The lipid and hormone test were examined before, 6th week of program and after the isokinetic exercise program for the trunk strengthening. The TC, TG, and LDL-C in blood lipid components were decreased after trunk muscles isokinetic exercise, and HDL-C were increased significantly. However, after 12 weeks TG and LDL-C was decreased insignificantly. The TC showed significant decreases, and HDL-C increased significantly. The testosterone, cortisol showed significant changes but the other hormones were not changed significantly after the 6 week-exercise. After 12 weeks, the testosterone, cortisol and epinephrine showed significant changes, but the other hormones did not changed significantly. The above results revealed that trunk muscles isokinetic exercise had positive effects on blood lipid and hormone components of hemiplegic patients as well as on improvement of hormone level related to healthy life for chronic hemiplegic patients
