Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aerobic walking exercise training on mechanism of TNF-α-induced insulin resistance (inflammation pathway, insulin pathway, PPARr and lipid metabolism association genes) in subcutaneous adipose tissues between non-obese (NO) and obese+insulin resistance (OIR) groups. A total of 20 middle-aged women was classified as either NO group or OIR group based on body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), and they participated in a 24-week well-monitored exercise intervention program. Both of the NO and OIR groups had significant (p<0.05) improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), obese indices (weight, BMI, BF, waist, hip, WHR), insulin resistance indices (HbA1c, MPG, FBG, FBI, HOMA-IR, AUC glucose) and TNF-α, FFA following the 24-week exercise intervention program, with no significant group differences. With respect to mRNA expressions in mechanism of TNF-α-induced insulin resistance, both groups had no significant improvements in inflammation pathway (NF-KB), insulin pathway (GLUT4), lipid metabolism (CIDEA) in either group. In conclusion, the current findings of this study indicate that an aerobic walking exercise training is an equally effective means of improving obese indices, insulin resistance indices, TNF-α, FFA, mechanism of TNF-α-induced insulin resistance in both NO and OIR groups.
