Abstract

All emotions that create a sense of discomfort can be categorized as uncomfortable emotions. Learning to navigate and manage these emotions involves paying attention to emotions that are often suppressed or ignored. This proactive approach not only helps prevent personal and relational issues resulting from suppressed emotions but also lays the groundwork for the development of additional moral functions and virtues. In light of this perspective, this study aims to comprehend uncomfortable emotions based on findings from neuroscientific research. In doing so, it explores the operations of the brain-nervous system that trigger these emotions, offering insights into effective coping strategies. Moreover, by integrating this understanding into moral education, it is believed that the effectiveness of moral education could be enhanced through experiences such as dealing with uncomfortable emotions using physical activity, and expanding the experience of self-understanding and fostering acceptance of others through uncomfortable emotions.
