나는 후기 비트겐슈타인에 대한 칸트주의적 해석, 선험주의적 해석을 비판하는 윌리엄스의 주장을 다음처럼 비판한다. (1) 그녀가 보여준 것은 기껏해야 후기 비트겐슈타인의 철학이 칸트의 철학이 아니라는 자명한 사실 이외에 없다. (2) 윌리엄스는 경험독립적 한계를 부정하는 비트겐슈타인의 주장으로부터 한계가 없다는 것을 추론하는 실책을 범하고 있다. (3) 윌리엄스는 선험성과 내재성을 대립시킴으로써 선험성을 초월성으로 이해하는 실책을 범하고 있다. (4) 윌리엄스는 후기 비트겐슈타인의 철학적 탐구를 경험적 서술로 간주하고 있다. 그러나 그것은 개념적이며 문법적 탐구이다. (5) 윌리엄스는 선제조건을 오직 인식적 의미로만 이해한다. 따라서 그녀는 그것의 논리적, 개념적 의미를 이해하고 있지 못하다. (6) 오히려 비트겐슈타인의 후기 철학을 그의 전기 철학이 보여주었던 선험적 역설을 해소하는 선험주의적 문맥 속에서 이해하여야 한다. (7) 바로 여기에서 우리는 후기 비트겐슈타인이 보여주는 선험논증의 고유성을 파악할 수 있다. 소여나 한계를 인정하는 것은 이성의 문제가 아니라 의지의 문제라는 것이다.
Abstract
M. Williams argues that the Kantian or the transcendental interpretations of the later Wittgenstein are misguided. I criticize Williams' arguments as follows; (1) At most what her arguments shows is the obvious fact that the later Wittgenstein's philosophy is not Kant's philosophy. (2) The later Wittgenstein doubts that the limit of language is drawn a priori. From this, Williams asserts that the philosophical research for limits is senseless. But the denial of the a priori limit does not imply that there is not any limits. (3) Williams contrasts the "transcendental" with the "immanent". But the opposed sense of the immanent is the transcendent. (4) Williams claims that the later Wittgenstein's philosophical investigations are the empirical investigations or descriptions. But his investigations are the grammatical, conceptual investigations. (5) Williams claims that the presupposition has the epistemic sense exclusively. But the presupposition in the later Wittgenstein has the logical or conceptual sense. (6) The later Wittgenstein's philosophy is better understood in the transcendental context. The later Wittgenstein's philosophy attempts to dissolve the transcendental paradox in the early Wittgenstein. (7) The transcendental argument in the later Wittgenstein has the peculiarity. It means that to accept the given or limits is not the matter of reason, but the matter of the will or the attitude.
