Abstract
This study aims at analyzing views of korean-chinese about North Korean and unification of two koreas. That is to say, it will show that how korean-chinese in Yanbian recognize North Korean society and unification of korea. This study used the method of the structured interview. It was written on the basis of research by 500 people selected in the area of china-Yanji, Longjing, Tumen, Hunchun-from December 1. 2000 to January 15 2001. The understanding of North Korean society, the understanding of relation between South and North Korea, the view of unification, the understanding of korean-chinese’ roles were questioned to investigate. The results are as follows. Korean-chinese in Yanbian took much interest in North Korea. They also agreed that North Korea has been changing. Meanwhile they highly expected the possibilities of making an invasion upon South Korea by the North, therefore they recognized North Korea to be warlike. The majority of korean-chinese regarded the situation of North Korea’s human rights as serious. For this reason, they thought that North Koreans didn’t give much support to the Kim Jong-il regime. They expected that North Korea would be opened, but the extent of that would be insignificant. Korean-chinese in Yanbian evaluated that South Korea has been superior to North Korea in liberty, equality, democracy, human rights and economy, but inferior to North Korea in culture, art and military power. They also evaluated that the degree of two korea’s heterogeneity has been deteriorated by priori- ty of leisure, family life, language, job style and custom. They sug- gested that the best way to improve the relationships between two koreas should be the way dri- ven by the governments and pri- vate sectors along, being given priority to economic and coopera- tions. Most of chinese-korean insisted that the unification between two koreas should be accomplished by the mutual con- sent through exchanges and coop- erations.
