대학생의 주의력결핍/과잉행동장애 증상과 기질 및 성격의 관계

The Relationship among ADHD symptoms, temperaments and characters in undergraduate students: based on Cloninger’s psychobiological theory

본 연구는 성인 초기 대학생을 대상으로 Cloninger(1993)의 심리생물학 이론에 근거한 기질 및 성격과 주의력결핍/과잉행동장애(Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; 이하 ADHD) 증상 간의 관련성을 확인하였다. 선행 연구들에서 성인 ADHD와 ADHD 유아동은 공통적으로 높은 수준의 자극추구, 낮은 수준의 인내력, 낮은 수준의 자율성과 연대감이 보고되어왔다. 하지만 위험회피 차원의 경우, 성인 ADHD는 높게 나타나는 데 비해, ADHD 유아동에서는 이러한 특징이 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구는 이러한 차이점이 성인 ADHD와 높은 비율로 공존하는 우울을 통제하지 않았기 때문이라 보고, 우울을 통제한 상태에서 ADHD 증상과 기질 및 성격간의 관계를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해, 대학생 457명을 대상으로 한국형 성인 ADHD 척도, 기질 및 성격검사, 한국판 CES-D를 측정하였다. 우울을 통제하지 않았을 때, ADHD 증상은 기질 차원 중 자극추구, 위험회피와 정적 상관을, 인내력과 부적 상관을 보였다. 성격 차원 중에는 자율성, 연대감과 부적 상관을 보였다. 우울을 통제하여 편상관 분석하면, ADHD 증상과 위험회피 간의 상관이 나타나지 않았으며, 다른 기질과 성격 차원들과의 관련성은 유지되었고 사회적 민감성과의 정적 상관이 추가로 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 우울의 영향을 통제하면 대학생 집단에서도 유아동 집단에서와 마찬가지로 ADHD 증상은 위험회피와 관련이 없으며, 유아동에서 나타나는 ADHD 증상과 기질 및 성격간의 관계가 성인 초기까지도 유지됨을 시사한다.

Abstract

This study was designed to examine the relationships among temperaments and characters based on Cloninger’s psychobiological theory of personality (Cloininger, 1993) and symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in undergraduate students. We assumed that the difference of temperament types between adult ADHD and children with ADHD was resulted from not controlling depression of adults with ADHD. Participants were 455 undergraduate students who completed Korean version of Temperaments and Character Inventory-Revised Short Version (TCI-RS), Korean version of Adult Attention-Deficit /Hyperactivity Disorder Scale (K-AADHDS), and Korean version of CES-D (CES-D). The partial correlation results showed that ADHD symptoms were correlated positively with novelty seeking and reward dependency, and negatively with persistence, but not associated with the levels of harm avoidance. ADHD symptoms were also correlated negatively with both self-directedness and cooperativeness. The results suggested that there was no difference in the level of harm avoidance between two groups after controlling depression levels and temperamental types of ADHD persist into early adulthood.
