Abstract
This study explored the characteristics of the Seoul International Book Fair and the Beijing International Book Fair in 2023. Firstly, the Seoul International Book Fair focused on its socio-cultural function, particularly emphasizing enhancing interaction among participants. Instead of running industrial-economic programs such as copyright agreement ceremonies, it operated a separate Copyright Center to assist with copyright consultations. In contrast, the Beijing International Book Fair emphasized traditional Chinese culture and socialist ideology, actively promoting China’s overseas publishing industry expansion strategy centered around the Belt and Road Initiative countries. As part of this effort, it actively conducted multilingual translations and copyright transactions. In summary, the Seoul International Book Fair demonstrated a character as a ‘socio-cultural international book fair centered on interaction,’ while the Beijing International Book Fair showed its nature as an ‘industrial-economic international book fair focused on spreading Chinese culture.’
