Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the indicator sets for the sustainability of ocean tourism development in the East Coast area of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. In the application of these indicator sets, it is difficult to find the fundamental principles or theories applied in the ocean tourism development area. But we anticipate deriving some theoretical patterns if we study various indicator sets for the sustainability of ocean tourism development in similar cases involving the special features of the ocean tourism development.As a theoretical research, this study reviews the interaction between sustainability of ocean tourism development and the carrying capacity of ocean tourism. Based upon the results of empirical analysis, the indicator sets should be related to the factors of planning, space, resources, and demand. The factor of the plan indicator was tested to check the correlation between host and guest. The factor of the space indicator was tested to check the internal space system. The factor of tourism resources indicator was tested to check the attraction of tourism products. Finally, the factor of the tourism demand indicator was tested to review the price orientation.The result of the study of the indicator sets for the sustainability of ocean tourism development in the East Coast area of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province is applicable to all cases of ocean tourism products which are concerned with demands, needs and subdivision of the market as well as making a distinction among the ocean tourism products. And it can be used to test the validity of systematic studies at the center of the field of ocean tourism resources value, maintaining the needs of practical development of ocean spaces and approaching methods to ocean tourism development.
