초록
The objective of the study was to provide primary data on obesity prevention and improvement by comparing socio-demographic and health characteristics of obesity types by body mass index and waist circumference based on the data collected from 14,713 adults (6,443 males and 8,270 females) who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2015 to 2019. The results showed that for the distribution of obesity types, adult males reported figures approximately twice as high as adult females in the BMI/WC obesity and BMI obesity groups. In general, statistical differences were confirmed in the types of obesity by gender. For health behavior practice rate by obesity types, the NO(Non Obese) and BMI groups of both adult males and females were highly engaged in practicing health behaviors, while the WC and BMI/WC obesity groups were less engaged in health behaviors. Such findings imply that health promotion strategies should be in place considering sociodemographic elements based on obesity types and gender, and that it is necessary to understand health behavior practice patterns by each obesity type and establish differentiated health behavior strategies.
