忘憂堂 漢詩에 나타난 俗과 仙, 그리고 節義

이 글은 忘憂堂 郭再祐의 한시에 드러난 망우당의 선속에 대한 관념을 조명해본 것이다. 망우당은 우리에게 임진왜란 때 紅衣將軍으로 알려져 있는데, 그에대한 세상의 논의는 의외로 신선과 관련된 것이 많다. 나라가 위급한 것을 보고 의병을 일으켜 큰 공을 세운 일과 세상을 등지고 속세를 떠나 신선의 세계를 추구하였던 일은 매우 다른 선상에 놓여 있는 것처럼생각된다. 그런데 적어도 망우당의 한시를 보면 이것이 반복적으로 나타나고있음을 볼 수 있다. 이 글에서는 이처럼 선과 속을 넘나드는 그의 한시세계와 그 선과 속을 매개하는 절의를 통하여서, 그것들이 과연 어떠한 관계에서 그의 일생에 어떠한 역할을 하였던가 하는 것을 드러내어보고자 하는 것이다. 망우당의 한시에서 仙과 俗, 그리고 節義는 서로가 서로를 극복하는 하나의 명제가 되기도 하지만, 어느 하나를 해나갈 때 어려움에 부딪히면 그것을 해결하는 원동력으로 다른 하나를 구하였다. 그래서 선과 속이 상반되면서도 하나가 되고, 속에서 절의를 추구하다가 절의를 버리고 신선세계로 나갔다가 다시절의를 위하여 속세로 나아오기도 했던 것이다.
Abstract
Mangwudang Guak Zai-wu is one of the greatest persons in our history. During Imjin War period, he raised army against Japanese to make a great contribution to our country, and after the war, he left secular society and lived in seclusion. His seclusion was little bit different from the seclusion to forget all the secular society. His seclution is to be a Taoist hermit dreaming hermits’ world. However, what he dreamed of is not the different world from secular world. It was the nature that he thought as hermits’ world. He perceived the nature as hermit’s world and recognized himself as an hermit. Eventhough he stayed in the country side far from the world he still cherished the value of the loyalty towards the king, and that’s the reason why he came back to fight. After the war, he gave up all the honors given to him and went back to the nature living a hermitic life, but he also came back to the world to be loyal towards the king when country needed him. That means that while he was in the world he overcame secular values with hermitic values. and on the other hand while he was in the nature he overcame hermitic values with secular values. Therefore, his excursion to the world is not for honors, but for loyalty.
