초록
The right hlP abductor musculature has been reported to demonstrate "stretchweakness" attributable to chronic elongation imposed by standing posture commonto right-handecl healthy persons. Kendall and associates have described the concept of sttretch weaknes,,". The purpose of this study was to assess isometric hipabducLion torque élnd surface εlectromyographic activity (using MYOMED 432) in asample of 40 healthy right -handed persons (20 male, 20 fema!e), all o[ whom agreedto partlcipate m the study, and compare side difference in the hip abductormusculalure. In order to assure the statistical sIgnificance of the results, the pairedt test WilS applIed at the、.05 level of slgnificance. The rεsults were as follows: 1)The clifference in apparent leg length of right and left legs was significant at the.05 level. 2) There was a sigmficant clifference between right ancl left pelvic height(stancling position) at the 05 level measurements, ancl scapula height at the .05 level. J) Power measurements and action potentials of right hip abductor weregreater than the left hip abcluctor regarclless of the range of joint motion (innerrange‘ ouler range) 4) The dlfference in muscle power and action potential saccorclmg to mner or outer rangó: of both hip abcluctor were signìficant at the .0:1 level. 5) In supine cluring active left hip abductJon, the appearance of actionpotentials III the right hip abductors ìs indicative of contra~ lateral effect (p<.05)These results suggets t: I C} healthy right ~ hanclecl persons, the apparent leg length onthe righl IS longer than on the left, and pelvic heìght ìs elevatecl on the right sicle. The right hlp abductor musculature has been reported to demonstrate "stretchweakness" attributable to chronic e1ongation imposed by standing posture common to right-handed healthy persons. Kendall and associates have described the concept of "stretch weakness". The purpose of this study was to assess isometric hip abduction torque and surface electromyographic activity (using MYOMED 432) in a sample of 40 healthy right -handed persons (20 ma1e, 20 fema!e), a11 of whom agreed to partlcipate the study, and compare side difference in the hip abductor musculalure. In order to assure the statistica1 sIgnificance of the results, the paired t test was apphed at the .05 level of slgnificance. The results were as follows: 1)The difference in apparent leg length of right and left 1egs was significant at the.05 level. 2) There was a significant difference between right ancl 1eft pelvic height(standing position) at the 05 level measurements, ancl scapula height at the .05level. 3) Power measurements and action potentials of right hip abductor were greater than the left hip abductor regardless of the range of joint motion (inner range, outer range) 4) The difference in muscle power and action potentials according to inner or outer range of both hip abductor were significant at the 0.5 level. 5) In supine during active left hip abduction, the appearance of action potentials in the right hip abductors ìs indicative of contralateral effect (p<.05). These results suggest: In healthy right-hancded persons, the apparent leg length on the right is longer than on the left, and pelvic height is elevated on the right side. Muscle torque and muscle actìon potentials of the right hip abductor are higher than thosc of the left hip abductor in the lengthened position. Therefore, the resultsin this study art' contrary to Kendall' s. This type of stucly should be carriecd out inmany physical therapy departments.
