A Comparison of Regional Growth of Fat Greenling Hexagrammos otakii in the West Sea of Korea

A total of 467, 432, and 451 fat greenling Hexagrammos otakii individuals were collected from Incheon, Gunsan, and Heuksando in Korea, respectively, from July 2022 to June 2023 to compare and analyze the age and growth by region. Annual rings of fat greenling were formed once a year, from September to October in Incheon and Gunsan, and from October to November in Heuksando. The spawning season occurred from November to December in Incheon and Gunsan, with the first ring forming after 10 months (0.83 years). In contrast, spawning occurred from January to February in Heuksando, and the first ring was formed after 9 months (0.75 years). There were no significant differences in the growth equations of females and males regarding total length across all regions (P>0.05). The von Bertalanffy growth equations, which were estimated based on the total length (L), were as follows: Lt=556.813(1-e-0.1370(t+1.2160)) for Incheon, Lt=557.104(1-e-0.1533(t+1.2923)) for Gunsan, and Lt=638.560(1-e-0.1392(t+1.0179)) for Heuksando. A comparison of the growth equations among the three regions did not show significant differences in the slope (P>0.05), indicating that there is no difference in growth among the regions.
